Tejer en los tiempos del cólera
Hubo una época en que sólo las abuelitas tejían. Y cuando yo decía que tejía me miraban como si fuera un bicho raro, traído de otra época. No voy a negar que a veces todavía me pasa pero cada vez menos. Cuando me preguntan “pero quien teje en estos tiempos?” yo, muy orgullosa, cuento que no sólo tejo yo, sino que tejo junto con una increíble comunidad que se ha ido construyendo con los años.
Cuando estaba embarazada el tejido me acompañaba durante todo el proceso pero más que nada en las últimas semanas, cuando la ansiedad de pensar “hoy si que nace!” hacía que los días pasaran más lentos. Con mi segunda hija incluso me llevé el tejido a la clínica, y, cuando me mandaron de vuelta porque todavía no estaba lista, me fui tejiendo hasta mi casa, entre contracciones y casi casi hasta que llegué a la sala de parto.
Hoy día el tejido es mi trabajo. Pero muchas veces me preguntan cómo lo hacía antes, cuando tenía un trabajo “normal”… cuándo tejía? Lo hacía siempre que podía pero, sobre todo, en mis momentos de mayor tensión y ansiedad me volcaba al tejido.
Hubo una época en la que por trabajo me iba a viajes que eran largos y lejos y tenía que dejar a mis niñitas. Se me partía el corazón y, a la vez, me carcomía la preocupación y la culpa. No podría decir que el tejido hacía que estos sentimientos desaparecieran. Pero tejer me ayudaba a pensar, a poner las cosas en perspectiva y a bajar los niveles de nerviosismo y ansiedad. Porque mi mente se enfocaba en otra cosa y, a la vez, me ayudaba a pensar más claramente.
Nunca me voy a olvidar que el día que fui a firmar mi divorcio… por supuesto que llevé mi tejido! Era un momento de alta tensión para mí, la espera, la incertidumbre, las dificultades que tenía y las que sabía que se vendrían. Ese día (y los que vinieron…) el tejido me permitió mantenerme calmada, enfocada y pensando en la nueva etapa de mi vida que empezaba.
¿Por qué se me ocurrió escribir acerca de esto hoy? Mi hermana Pili tiene niños chicos que son muy inquietos por lo que muchas veces terminan en la urgencia, con puntos y yesos o necesitando alguna cirugía. Hace un par de semanas operaron a su hijo y me mandó una foto de su tejido y me escribió… “menos mal que estoy tejiendo o si no estaría volviéndome loca con la espera” y creo que esa frase resumió exactamente cómo nos ayuda. El tejido no sólo nos calma, sino que, como es una actividad que se puede llevar a todas partes, nos acompaña en todo momento; incluso en aquellos en que no puedes hacer casi ninguna otra labor o hobby que te ayude con la ansiedad.
Fue en la pandemia cuando se hizo más evidente que podemos acudir al tejido en momentos de “cólera” o de tensión máxima. Yo misma vi como personas que alguna vez tejieron quisieron volver a intentarlo, o aquellas que tejían de toda la vida buscaron aprender nuevas técnicas e incluso, muchas que nunca lo habían hecho quisieron probar esta actividad que nos ayudó a mantenernos cuerdas en el encierro.
Esta semana me gustaría invitarte a que intentes siempre tener tu tejido acompañándote. Sobre todo en aquellos momentos de tensión en los que pocas cosas nos pueden ayudar a mantenernos en nuestro centro. ¿Sientes que el tejido te ayuda? ¿en qué momentos? Para mí, tejer ha sido fundamental en muchos momentos de mi vida y estoy segura de que seguirá siendo así.

  • Hola Jandi! Amo tejer, aprendí a los 9 años y nunca he dejado de hacerlo, le he tejido a mis hijos, a mis nietos, amigas. Llevo el tejido a todos lados y me encanta que exista una comunidad de gente joven que aprenda este oficio ancestral que produce tanta satisfacción y orgullo. Soy profesora de Ed. Básica y siempre les enseñé a mis alumnas en tercero y cuarto básico a tejer (nunca estuvo en los programas pero yo lo hice igual jejjjejiji) Ahora tejo con amigas y compartimos experiencias y aprendizajes. Felicitaciones por tu hermoso trabajo y tu forma de enseñar. Eres muy generosa y eso la vida se encarga de premiarlo.

  • Yo tejo desde pequeña, no recuerdo exactamente de cuando. Lo ùnico que recuerdo es que estando en enseñanza media siempre llevaba el tejido conmigo, tejìa calcetas, mitones y chalecos. Hace pocos años vivì una situaciòn muy triste y era tanta mi pena que me enfoquè en el tejido ( me hice un chaleco grande, grueso en 4 dìas). Esto me ayudò a superar mi pena y sigo tejiendo. Claro que ahora trato de tejer para niños màs que nada, porque mi musculatura està fallando. Creo que el tejido o cualquier manualidad nos ahorra el sicòlogo

  • Empecé a tejer en la pandemia, tejia a dos agujas.
    Luego hice cursos de agujas circulares en Domestika, incluso el tuyo. Me enferme y tuve que iniciar un largo tratamiento, tejí y tejí no pare nunca. Terminaba un jersey empezaba otro. Así lleve mucho mejor los tratamientos. El tejido fue mi cable a tierra, mi hobby en momentos de mucha espera y paciencia.

Gloria mamá de Valentína Godoy ,mira el tejido para mí representa todo lo que soy me lleva a mis raíces (soy del campo), soy hija de una madre extrema en el tejido siempre nos tenía algo lindo para las fiestas teñía sus propias lanitasnos tenía horas con los brazo arriba para poder ovillar y así fue amando este hermoso hobby se volvió una pasión,me relaja me calma y es más mí hija Valentina está en su mes 7de embarazo y está tejiendo una mantita para su bebé y le está quedando muy linda solo un detalle tomo el punto derecho de una manera que al final teje como punto espiga sin querer hacerlo y es su primer tejido .
    Gracias jandi por todo lo que nos enseñas yo amo lo que ustedes hacen y muchas bendiciones ,gracias no cambien nunca su forma de atender a aquellas que no logra comprender un patrón

  • Nuestras vidas de tejedoras son muy parecidas….. o no enseñó ña mamá, la abuela, el colegio, a mi me enseñó mi nana, cuando era muy chica.
    En la juventud (época hippie) tejí mucho, vendía en una tienda, después a mis hijos, sobrinos y entre ellos se iban pasando los chalecos a medida que crecían. Ahora sigo con mi vicio
    Todos los días tejo.
    Me sirven tus tíos y el libro magnífico. No copio tus chalecos , los dibujos los ocupo.

    Yo tejo desde que era niña y es mi pasión. El tejido me acompaña siempre. Generalmente tengo más de uno para ir cambiando. En el colegio yo le tejía a mis amigas lo que nos pedían y ellas me hacían los dibujos de arte, era un buen cambalache. Hoy me voy acercando al los 70 y voy a tejer hasta que Dios quiera. El tejido es el mejor anti depresivo.

  • Hola Jandy, te cuento que he tejido desde muy pequeña me enseñó mi mamá y fue una herencia que jamás pensé sería ten eterna. Cuando mis hijos eran pequeños les tejí mucho y les hacía modelos iguales siendo niña y niño se veían tan lindos!!
    Ahora tejo para mi he aprendido mucho con clases presenciales, cursos on line, YouTube y talleres varios. Mi mejor panorama lejos es comprar lanita bella. Un abrazo Jandy.

    Concuerdo absolutamente contigo en que el tejido ayuda mucho a manejar la ansiedad. Yo lo llevo a todas partes, sobre todo cuando salgo en el auto, porque asi tejo cuando me tocan tacos. Todo el.mundo se estresa y yo aprovecho de avanzar un par de corridas. Se ha convertido en mi.loderador de animo. Si no lo ando trayendo, me pudo poner de mal humor ante situaciones que requieren mantener la calma. Teji crochet durante 20 años y hace unos años atras descubri el palillo.   • Jandi, al leerte me identifique mucho, ya que justamente en “ Pandemia” fue que empecé a tejer, a recordar a mi Mamita, de sus enseñanzas tejeriles. Fue y es mi “ terapia “ cómo les digo a mis familiares y amistades. Hoy, sigo tejiendo porque es la forma de centrarme en mi, de reflexionar lo del día a día. De darle otra vuelta a las preocupaciones.

  • Yo tejí en mi adolescencia se usaba hacerse sweaters con manga sin manga etc . pero hace unos años me vino una crisis de ansiedad y es increíble cómo el tejido me ha ayudado ,lo llevo a todas partes ,me distrae ,calma y me entretengo demasiado ,lo que sí a pesar de que no tengo nietos ,hago tejidos de guagua o niños chicos porque sino me termina doliendo el brazo y sobretodo el hombro esa es la única pena ,tengo ese problema pero todo se soluciona con ejercicio ,el tejido es realmente una terapia INCREÍBLE!!!! Gracias Jandi por todo lo que nos enseñas !!!!!!

  • Hola, tienes mucha razón en lo que dices sobre lo bien que hace tejer, sobre todo a nivel mental. La verdad nunca lo había visto así hasta hoy que caigo en cuenta que gracias al tejido, que fue mucho, me pude mantener cuerda en esta pandemia, teji, teji, teji. Hice muchas cosas desde chalecos de BB y adultos hasta amigurumis y mándalas, se despertó mi creatividad de forma impresionante. Le doy gracias a mi madrecita amada que me enseñó el arte del tejido desde muy pequeñita. Nos pasaba lana y utilizábamos dos clavos, sí esos mismos que usamos para colgar un cuadro a la pared, pero más grandes y recuerdo estar en invierno al lado de la a chimenea con mis lanitas haciéndole bufandas a mis muñecas y ella guiandome. Si pudiera volver el tiempo iría a ese lugar y me quedaría por siempre ahí con ella. Besos al cielo mamita. Bueno, momento de emoción perdonen, pero es para contarles mis inicios. Ahora, a mis 68 años me encantaría aprender a hacer esos suéter o chalecos o jersey que haces.
    Queridas tejedoras, sigan tejiendo y las que no saben aprendan, hace muy pero muy bien. Y puede ser el inicio de un buen negocio….

  • Hola jandi , tuve la oportunidad de conocerte en una tienda revés derecho de , te pregunté por tu libro , bueno mis hijos me lo regalaron para mí cumpleaños, estoy feliz me encanta tejer ,estoy tratando me cuesta un poco con las hebras que van por atrás me quedan sueltas o muy apretadas pero aún así es un desafío que sin duda podré sacar adelante
